The Hungarian Oil & Gas Company Plc (MOL Rt.) was founded in 1991, and that alone represents a milestone in the history of the Hungarian petroleum industry. It is not only a company that embraces the entire Hungarian petroleum industry, but one that has grown into one of the largest multinational corporations in Central Europe.
MOL Group is a leading international, integrated oil and gas company from Hungary, the heart of Europe, with over 75 years’ experience, with strong refinery and commercial position in the CEE region. MOL Group’s Downstream Division operates 6 production units with a total capacity of 20.5 mtpa refining and 2.1 mtpa petrochemicals with more than 1,700 service stations under 8 brands in 12 CEE countries, all supported by a far-reaching logistics system and driven by Supply Chain Management. Core activities are: 1.) exploration and production of crude oil, natural gas and gas products; 2.) refining, transportation, storage and distribution of crude oil products at both retail and wholesale; 3.) transmission of natural gas; 4.) production and sales of olefins and polyolefins. MOL Group is committed to the sustainable fuel production by using renewable energy sources.
The company’s R&D unit is involved in the development of renewable fuels, it participated in several such research projects, funded from Hungarian national grants among others. The R&D unit is equipped with laboratory and pilot scale testing units as well as analytical facilities to enable the development of fuel technologies up to commercial scale. The MOL Refining Product Development is part of the Refining R&D organization (employs 6 experts) which is responsible for the MOL continuous improvement of the product qualities both on white and black product side in tight cooperation with the other experts of the relevant refining areas.
Within the REDIFUEL (LC-SC3-RES-21-2018) project MOL is able to contribute to the technical assessment of the effect of the planned drop-in diesel-like component(s) on the compatibilities with the different refinery streams and fuel additives, the blending system. MOL expects to gain wider outlook to these advanced biofuels; get information about the production, availability and applicability of these alternative fuel sources and transform this kind of knowledge into new fuel recipes/formulation, new products which can be marketed in MOL Group’s area complying with the planned and up-coming EU regulations in the midterm future.
